Project home kitchens, grown up
Rouse Hill grew rapidly from the late 1990s, and particularly after the Rouse Hill Town Centre opened in 2007. Most homes are 2000s and 2010s project homes on compact to medium lots, with open-plan kitchen, family and dining areas and an alfresco out the back.
The kitchens were designed well enough, but often fitted out with:
- Standard builder-range cabinetry with limited drawers.
- A walk-in pantry with basic melamine shelves.
- Engineered stone benchtops in 20mm thickness.
- A glass or tiled splashback.
- Freestanding appliances in gaps that do not quite fit newer models.
After ten to twenty years of family life, doors sag, edges chip and the family has outgrown the storage.
Rouse Hill kitchen upgrades
The makeover. New doors, a porcelain benchtop and splashback, and new hardware on existing carcasses. See kitchen makeovers.
The storage rethink. Replacing cupboards with deep drawers, adding tall pull-out pantries and fitting out the walk-in pantry properly.
The pantry upgrade. Turning a walk-in pantry into a scullery with a bench, power and sometimes a sink. See butler's pantries.
The bigger island. Extending or replacing the island to add seating and bench space.
The outdoor kitchen. Using the existing alfresco slab for a barbecue bench and drinks fridge. See alfresco kitchens.
Replacing engineered stone
Many Rouse Hill kitchens have engineered stone benchtops. Since 1 July 2024 engineered stone can no longer be installed, so replacements use porcelain, natural stone, solid surface, timber or laminate. Removing the old benchtop is done under safety controls, avoiding cutting on site. See benchtops and splashbacks.
Smaller lots, smart design
On compact lots, the kitchen often shares one open space with dining and living. Integrated appliances, handleless doors and cabinetry that runs to the ceiling make the kitchen feel calmer and store more.

Which council covers Rouse Hill?
Rouse Hill is split between The Hills Shire and Blacktown City. Your rates notice confirms which council applies if any approval is needed.
Is a makeover or full renovation better for a Rouse Hill kitchen?
If the cabinets are solid and the layout works, a makeover with new doors, benchtops and splashback is often good value. If you need more storage, a scullery or a bigger island, a full renovation is the better investment.
What does a Rouse Hill kitchen renovation cost?
As a 2026 guide, makeovers typically run $14,000 to $24,000, and full replacement in a similar layout $24,000 to $38,000. Adding an island extension or butler's pantry moves into the $38,000 to $60,000 band or beyond.
